AGENDA: A CONVERSATION WITH SHEPARD FAIREY VIDEO

Love him or hate him, Shepard Fairey is one of the most influential street artists of all time, and on the same timeline one of the most successful artists in the broadest sense of the term.

His line OBEY nearly defines streetwear, and his success, image, and reputation as a machine of a man is a testimony to how incredibly hard he works. HBTV and director David Gallardo caught up with him at AGENDA a few days back, and threw some words at him, allowing him to respond as he saw fit.

Whether OBEY is your style of art and fashion or not, Shep is still an important enough figure in the world of pop culture that his words are worth listening to. And though his popularity is littered with criticisms of his abandonment of the “rules of graffiti,” he has pioneered a movement and I see him as one of the most important artists in the history of the world of art.

His notion of taking what is happening in streetwear and filtering through his own tastes is an insightful one, and there is much to be learned from this giant in the fashion industry.

Great interview.

New work by Shepard Fairey, see more at Arrested Motion.

Talk about getting up. You gotta be a hater to say that you really don’t appreciate Shep’s work. Then again, there are a lot of haters out there…

Shep is really starting to move this Russian Constructivist thing in an interesting direction. I am enjoying watching its evolution.

New print by Shepard Fairey available on January 21st.

Gotta say I love the fact that this “sign” is hanging off of a fire escape. It remind me of our home. But I would love to see what reference material he used to create this image.
