Top 10 Street Art and Graffiti Stories of 2011

ironlaklosangeles:

LA Weekly put together the ten L.A.-related street art and graffiti stories that we think were most remarkable in 2011.

Yes, year-end lists. Not even street art is exempt. But hey, 2011 was a banner year for the Los Angeles street art and graffiti communities, as they enjoyed plenty of worldwide attention.

Great, great read for your Tuesday morning.

Nice Kicks Top 50 Sneakers of 2011 Part 2 (1-25) from Nice Kicks on Vimeo.

asck:

Part 2 of NiceKicks’ Top 50 Sneakers of 2011 countdown leads up to the most hyped, paid, and fought for sneakers to release in the last year.

Watch Part 1 if you haven’t yet, because NiceKicks did a great job of leading up to the best sneaker releases of the year. You’ll notice how they talk about certain fads in sneakers this year, like the lowkey, lowtop release trend that swept through the basketball/casual sneaker front with shoes from people likeKevin Durant, Kobe, and LeBron. As a lowtop fan, this made me happy to see.

The two pairs you expect to see top the list, but I think my favorite drop this year is Kevin Durant’s “Weatherman” colorway, and I agree with KD that the colorway (below) is nicer than the “Nerf”s. But with the “Nerf” KDIVS colorway taking over the custom shoes circle hot on the heels of the “Southbeach” phenomenon, there is a lot to be excited about leading into Durant’s 2012 releases.

Extra points for using the illest of Cool Kids beats.

World Series Winner Spikes - Jacob Patterson

I painted these custom spikes for Brian Wilson of the San Francisco Giants to wear in the 2011 All Star Game in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday!
There’s a lot of subtle messages in them, which you can see here, along with more pics of them, but I will post a full blog post the day of the game.

I am painting some custom shoes for Brian Wilson to wear in the 2011 All Star Game in Phoenix on Tuesday.

They’re gunna be pretty simple but I am really hoping people will like them! I love Brian Wilson, and I think he is a great thing for baseball. He reminds me a lot of another of my favorite superstars to play for San Francisco, T.O.

Anyway, the game is on Tuesday at 5pm, so watch for my shoes! There will be a few jokes in there for you Beard Fearing Fans!
