INTERVIEW: MAYA ARULPRAGASAM AKA M.I.A.
After stirring the pot once more with a vulgar gesture at the Super Bowl, M.I.A. is back in the headlines again just in time for her amazing music video to pick up steam. While not an interview in the traditional sense, this compilation of interviews from Spin magazine and other sources takes M.I.A.’s controversial and oftentimes hypocritical public presence and does its best to explain away the fat to get to the meat of what the singer is trying to accomplish. Calling her new album, /\/\/\Y/, a sort of “folk music for the iPad-age, her boldest move yet,” Jon Dolan creates the best discourse with the “confused revolutionary” to date.
The article covers her two-steps-ahead approach to popular culture, and details her ambition as a graphic designer being a key factor in her world domination which recently saw her on stage with Madonna on the biggest day in television the world over.
Let’s hope he doesn’t piss her off and instigate a violent diss track. Actually, let’s hope that he does because we know we would all like to hear it.
I’m obsessed. Great read.
