Question for artists.

Could you be with someone who thought your work sucked? Or even just didn’t like it?

I theorize that for all (male atleast) artists, the most important trait in a partner is the ability to stroke ego. Can you imagine any circumstance in which you could be in love with someone that disliked what you created?

  2. idrawanimeandshit answered: That’d be tough, I think I’d feel obligated to create something she liked. It would lose meaning to me because I like to create what I like.
  3. jtklol answered: I feel like if a girl thought my stuff sucked, there’s no way it would work out. If she was indifferent to it, it might be able to work out.
  4. dollfacedtrouble answered: I’m a woman but that would still be really hard to deal with. I really dont think I could fall for someone who hated my art.
  5. zorseclothing answered: Spent 15+ hours making a pair of custom dunks for my gf for X-mas ‘11. They’re still sitting in the box. Says they’re not her style.
  6. inhuman-nature answered: I don’t think I could simply because I’m in love with art and it is a part of me. Not Liking my art is like not liking my face or appearance
  7. ab16 answered: I’d feel unwanted, and insecure, art is a pretty big deal for me and so is love, I want them to be in harmony, not in contradiction.
  8. beneathtwomoons answered: I was once with someone who’s work far outstripped my own. It was uncomfortable sometimes, creatively speaking, but it was good overall.
  9. ragobash answered: Maybe if he disliked a couple of pieces, but if he disliked EVERYTHING… probably not, no.
  10. nosleeptillbklyn answered: no. because as far as i’m concerned, whether you’re doing fine art or design or whatever, your art is an extension of yourself.
  11. ericklima11 answered: Two words: TOTAL HELL
  12. mizslim1 answered: Well that’s almost impossible, because they’d dislike a part that represents you. So I would say no.
  13. the-effie-diaries answered: no…i’d feel ashamed and unwanted
  14. vera6993 answered: well, if they hated or disliked EVERYTHING.. I don’t know, I guess if I loved them I would just keep my art seperated from them I guess?
  15. thdrhntr answered: i could probably overlook it, i have a feeling that my significant other strokes my ego even if he doesnt like/understand it, plus for mee
  16. kentballs answered: As a writer I’ve dated a few girls who corrected my grammar or told me they thought my writing was bad. It made me want to be better.
  17. lstplcwnr answered: As an on and off rapper, my girlfriend supports me and likes my shit. I made a song for her, so maybe that’s why!
